Vancouver. The producers and exporters were facing a lot of difficulties due to the strike of Grain Workers Union at Vancouver, one of the busiest ports of Canada, and a lot of pressure was being exerted to end it as soon as possible.

Finally, a temporary agreement was reached between Vancouver Terminal Elevators Association and Grain Workers Union, which is expected to clear the way for export shipment of agricultural commodities produced in Canada and especially wheat, peas, lentils and canola etc.

Canada's Labour Minister has said that an initial agreement has been reached with the workers at six grain terminals of Vancouver port, which will end their strike.

It is known that Canada is the largest producer and exporter of canola and lentils in the world, while it is at number three in wheat export.

According to the Labour Minister, during the talks, both the parties adopted a flexible approach and the representative of the Central Government, who was presiding over it, suggested to the Grain Workers Union Local 333 and Vancouver Terminal Elevators Association to give up their stubbornness and find a solution.

After a long discussion, both the parties reached an immediate consensus. It is understood that when the Union assured to end its strike, the Association accepted some of its demands. The remaining demands will be discussed in the future.

Harvesting of agricultural crops is still going on in Canada and the peak season for its export has also started. In such a situation, there was a fear that its export would be hit hard due to the strike of workers at an important port like Vancouver.
