Chickpea Prices Rise Due to Improved Demand
New Delhi: Despite subdued selling at lower prices and limited buying, chickpea prices showed an upward trend this week. Reduced supply pressure at lower price levels brought stability to the market, directly impacting prices. Demand for chickpea dal and besan (gram flour) improved during this period. Increased demand led to higher inquiries from dal millers, boosting chickpea purchases and supporting prices. According to traders, the continued demand under current circumstances suggests that chickpea prices may remain firm in the coming weeks. According to the latest weekly report from the Central Ministry of Agriculture, the area under chickpea cultivation has increased in the current Rabi season. By December 19, 2025, the chickpea cultivation area had increased from 86.81 lakh hectares to 91.70 lakh hectares. The increased area suggests the possibility of better chickpea production in the future.
