No possibility of slowdown in Coriander prices

New Delhi. During the current week, the business in the coriander market was low. Because the prices remained limited in the futures market. But due to the bullish business sentiment, the prices of coriander in the spot markets were quoted strongly at the end of the week. The price of the month of May in the futures market opened at Rs 7080 at the beginning of the week, which closed at Rs 7020 at the end of the week. Whereas the futures of the month of June opened at Rs 7044 and closed at Rs 7082. Knowledgeable sources say that the arrival of coriander in the mandis of the producing centers has started decreasing. Because most of the total production has already arrived in the mandis. In the coming days, the arrival in the mandis will be limited. While there are estimates of improvement in local and export demand. It is worth mentioning that despite the decrease in sowing at the producing centers during the current season, the yield of coriander remained satisfactory because due to the weather being favorable for the crop, there was an increase in productivity per hectare. Sources believe that during the current season, coriander production in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan is likely to be more than one crore bags, whereas last year the production was 1.10 crore bags, in the year 2023 the production was 1.50/1.60 crore bags.
Incoming
Informed sources say that due to about 70/75 percent of the goods arriving in the mandis of Gujarat, the arrival in the mandis has started decreasing. In Gondal, the main mandi of coriander, the arrival has come down to 15000 bags. This year the coriander production in Gujarat is reported to be 40/42 lakh bags. Arrival was also low in the mandis of Madhya Pradesh. The daily arrival of coriander in Guna and Kumbhraj, the main mandi of Madhya Pradesh, has come down to 10/12 thousand bags. This year the production of coriander in Madhya Pradesh is believed to be 45/48 lakh bags. In Rajasthan's main market Ramganj, the arrival has also come down to about 5 thousand sacks. While in Kota and Baran, the arrival is 1000/1500 sacks. This year, coriander production in Rajasthan is estimated to be 14/15 lakh sacks.
Slow or high
Informed sources say that there is no possibility of slowdown in the current prices of coriander. Because the pressure of arrival in the markets has started decreasing. Apart from this, the total availability of coriander will also be less as compared to consumption. Due to which, trade estimates are being made that the prices of coriander will increase by 8/10 rupees per kg in the coming days. Currently, the price of coriander Eagle is being quoted at Rs 6800/7000 and Badami at Rs 6000/6400 in the markets of the producing centers.

Informed sources say that apart from the low production during the current season, the outstanding stock of coriander was also low. It is noteworthy that during the current season, at the time of arrival of new goods at the producing centers, the stock of coriander was believed to be 35/40 lakh bags, whereas last year the stock was 65/70 lakh bags.
Low availability
During the current season, the availability of coriander is likely to be less than the consumption. Sources say. During the current season, the total availability will be 1.35/1.40 crore bags, including about one bag of new production and outstanding stock of 35/40 lakh bags. Whereas our annual local and export consumption is about 1.50/1.60 crore bags. Due to the decrease in total availability, coriander prices are likely to remain strong in the coming days.
Exports decreased
During the current financial year 2024-25, a decline has been recorded in the export of coriander. According to the data released by the Spices Board, the export of coriander during April-February was 54829.73 tonnes and the income from export was Rs 57403 lakh. Whereas during April-February 2023-24, the export of coriander was 100333.98 tonnes and the income from export was Rs 87136 lakh. On the one hand, there has been a decline of 45 percent in the export quantity. At the same time, the income has also decreased by 34 percent.
