Lentil prices rise due to better buying

Mumbai. Due to weak buying by importers, lentil prices remained on the rise during the current week. Due to frost, heat and unfavourable weather in some areas, there are reports of a fall in lentil production in Australia. ABARES had given a production estimate of 17 lakh tonnes, but due to frost and bad weather, the production is expected to be 10 lakh tonnes. E Grain India believes that such a big fall is not possible, production can reach 12 lakh tonnes. Seeing this, the activity of importers increased in lentils and the selling prices increased. Due to weak selling by importers and better buying, Mumbai lentil prices increased by Rs 150/200 per quintal this week and with this increase, the price at the weekend became Mundra Rs 6100, Hazira Rs 6150 and container Rs 6250/6300 per quintal. Similarly, Kolkata lentil prices also registered a rise of Rs. 75/100 per quintal this week and the price at the weekend became Rs. 6325/6350 for vessel and Rs. 6375 per quintal for container.
Delhi
Due to the support of the rise in the port and increased buying by the dal millers, Delhi lentil prices registered a rise of Rs. 75/125 per quintal this week and with this increase the price at the weekend became Rs. 6625 for small quota, Rs. 7100 for Bundi, Rs. 7150 for Uttar Pradesh and Rs. 6675 per quintal for desi badi.
Madhya Pradesh
Due to strong buying, prices of lentils in Madhya Pradesh witnessed a rise of Rs. 100/150 per quintal this week and the prices at the weekend became Ashoknagar Rs. 5800/5900, Sagar Rs. 5600/6150, Damoh Rs. 5800/6300, Indore Rs. 6100 and Katni Rs. 6625/6650 per quintal.
Uttar Pradesh
Due to increase in demand, prices of lentils in Uttar Pradesh witnessed a rise of Rs. 50/100 per quintal during the current week and the prices at the weekend became stable at Bareilly Choti Rs. 7150, Moti Rs. 6725/6750, Kanpur Rs. 6550 and Lalitpur Moti Rs. 5800/5900, Choti Rs. 6300/6400 per quintal.
Others
Due to improvement in demand, Bihar lentil prices witnessed a rise of Rs 50 per quintal this week and the prices at the weekend reached Rs 6750 for Barh, Rs 6650 for Khusrupur and Rs 6750 for Mokama. Similarly, Raipur lentil rose by Rs 50 per quintal during the current week and reached Rs 6200 per quintal at the weekend.
Masoor dal
Due to sluggish demand, no rise or fall was seen in lentil prices this week and the prices remained stable at Rs 7500 for Jalgaon, Rs 7500 for Indore, Rs 7750/8050 for Barh and Rs 7650/7950 for Khusrupur at the weekend.
