Heavy Arrivals of New Paddy Continue - Pressure on Rice Prices
New Delhi. As the harvesting of Kharif paddy (especially Basmati) accelerates in Punjab, Haryana, and Western Uttar Pradesh, arrivals are increasing in major markets, while prices remain largely stable amid normal trading. It is noteworthy that the Central Government does not set a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Basmati rice, nor is it typically procured from farmers for the central pool.
Delhi
During the week of October 4-10, daily arrivals of paddy at Delhi's Narela Mandi ranged between 20,000 and 40,000 bags, and the price of 1509 bags improved to over ₹3,000 per quintal. Najafgarh Mandi also saw daily arrivals of 5,000 to 6,000 bags. Currently, the markets are primarily supplying 1509 bags.
Chhattisgarh
4,000-5,000 bags of paddy are arriving daily in Bhatpara and Rajim markets in Chhattisgarh, but due to limited trading, prices haven't seen any significant fluctuations.

55,000 bags of paddy arrived in Amritsar, Punjab, on October 4th, but later declined to 20,000-22,000 bags. Similarly, in Tarn Taran, paddy arrivals have declined from 54,000 bags to 7,000 bags. 2,000 bags of paddy are arriving in Fazilka, where the price of 1847 paddy has increased by ₹90 per quintal.

As far as rice is concerned, its price fluctuated between 50-100 rupees per quintal amid limited trading in most markets.
