Pressure on paddy prices due to possibility of early arrival of new goods
New Delhi. Arrival of new crop of Basmati and general category paddy is going to start soon in Punjab, Haryana and Western Uttar Pradesh. In the current Kharif season, due to increase in area at national level and abundant monsoon rains, the government is confident of a good production of paddy-rice, so it has withdrawn the minimum export price (MAP) of $ 950 per tonne applicable on Basmati rice and opened the export of Basmati white rice and reduced the export duty on Sela rice from 20 percent to 10 percent. This is expected to increase rice exports well and paddy producers can also get better returns.
