Soybean prices strong in MP but soft in Maharashtra

New Delhi. Due to the 20 percent increase in import duty on edible oils by the Central Government and the decrease in imports from abroad in September, a good increase in the plant delivery price of soybean was expected because the festive season is still going on, but on the contrary, during the week of October 4 to 10, the price of this important oilseed remained somewhat strong in Madhya Pradesh (MP) but softened in Maharashtra. In fact, the Maharashtra government has estimated soybean production to jump from 66.68 lakh tonnes in the last season to a peak level of 73.27 lakh tonnes in the current marketing season and the supply of its new goods is also increasing there, so there is pressure on prices.
Madhya Pradesh
During the week under review, the plant delivery price of soybean in Madhya Pradesh was recorded at Rs 4600-4700 per quintal, which is much lower than the minimum support price of Rs 4892 per quintal fixed for the marketing season of 2024-25. It is understood that the moisture content in the new soybean stock is still high. When more dry stock arrives, then the prices may improve. The central government has announced to buy soybean from farmers in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana at the minimum support price. The price of this important oilseed in Maharashtra is lagging behind even MP. Soybean is being traded at Rs 4600 per quintal in Kota, Rajasthan.
Soya oil (refined)
The prices of soya refined oil also declined by Rs 10 to Rs 25 per 10 kg. In Mandsaur, it came down by Rs 25. The price remained stable at Rs 1280 in Kota while in Mumbai it fell by Rs 40 to Rs 1280. But its price improved by Rs 5 in Kandla and Rs 25 in Haldia. Other mills also reduced their rates and sold.
Arrival
The supply of soybean has started increasing. Its arrival at all India level was recorded as 3.50 lakh bags on October 5, 5 lakh bags on October 7, 7.50 lakh bags on October 8, 7 lakh bags on October 9 and 4.25 lakh bags (each bag of 100 kg) on October 10. Heavy arrival of new soybean has started in the three top producing states - Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
