Tuvar prices fall due to lack of customer support
Weekly Review: Tuvar Prices Fall Due to Weak Demand and Increased Selling Pressure
Mumbai: The price of tuvar has faced a downturn this week as stockists increased their selling activity ahead of the new crop season. This led to a rise in market supply amidst sluggish demand. Dal millers were hesitant to purchase tuvar at higher prices, contributing to the ongoing price pressure. Specifically, prices for Chennai Tuvar Lemon declined by Rs 450 per quintal, with weekend prices hovering around Rs 9450–9500 per quintal. Similarly, in Mumbai, African tuvar varieties saw a dip, with Mozambique White at Rs 7150–7200, Gajari at Rs 7000–7050, Malawi at Rs 6800–6850, Dodomo at Rs 6900–7000, and Sudan at Rs 10300–10350 per quintal.
Burma: The export demand for Burma Tuvar remained weak, leading to a fall of $55 per tonne, with the price ending at $1050 per tonne by the weekend.
Delhi: In Delhi, the price of Tuvar Lemon fell by Rs 250 per quintal, while Desi Tuvar saw a decrease of Rs 200 per quintal. This price decline was attributed to a combination of weaker demand from dal millers and falling port prices. The weekend prices for Delhi Tuvar Lemon were Rs 9950–10000, Maharashtra Line at Rs 10500, and Karnataka Line at Rs 10700 per quintal.
Maharashtra: Maharashtra witnessed a decline in Tuvar prices due to lack of demand. Prices fell by Rs 200–400 per quintal, with the weekend prices at Solapur Rs 9500–10550, Akola Rs 10500, Nagpur Rs 10300, Latur Rs 10800–11000, and Ahmednagar Rs 9700–9900 per quintal.
Karnataka: Karnataka's Tuvar prices also decreased by Rs 300–400 per quintal, with the weekend prices at Gulbarga Rs 10700–11000 and Bidar Rs 9733–10085 per quintal.
Madhya Pradesh: The price of Tuvar in Madhya Pradesh dropped by Rs 400–500 per quintal as demand from dal millers remained weak. The prices at the weekend were: Katni Rs 10550–10650, Jabalpur Rs 8000–9800, Pipariya Rs 7500–9700, and Kareli Rs 7000–9511 per quintal.
Other Regions:
- Raipur: Due to the overall market decline, prices fell by Rs 300 per quintal, reaching Rs 10500–10800 at the weekend.
- Kanpur: Prices dropped by Rs 200 per quintal, settling at Rs 8800 per quintal by weekend.
Tuvar Dal: Despite the overall downturn in raw tuvar prices, Tuvar Dal prices experienced some fluctuations, rising and falling by Rs 100–200 per quintal in various markets. The weekend prices for Tuvar Dal Phatka were as follows:
- Delhi Phatka: Rs 14825–15875
- Katni Phatka: Rs 14600–14800
- Akola: Rs 15300–16200
- Latur Phatka: Rs 16300–16500
- Gulbarga Phatka: Rs 15200–15900
- Kanpur Phatka: Rs 14500–14900
Summary: Overall, the market for tuvar remains under pressure this week due to weak demand from dal millers, a sluggish export market, and increased selling by stockists in anticipation of the new crop. With prices continuing to fall across various regions, buyers have become more cautious, leading to a generally subdued market for both raw tuvar and tuvar dal.
