Tuvar prices soften due to weak buying
Mumbai. Tuvar prices improved during the current week due to increased selling pressure at higher prices and weak buying. Due to weak lifting of Tuvar dal, the buying of dal millers in Tuvar remained limited, which put pressure on prices. Tuvar sowing pace is slower than last year. According to the Department of Agriculture, till 25 July 2025, Arhar (Tuar) has been sown in a total area of 34.9 lakh hectares across the country, which is 3.09 lakh hectares less than 37.99 lakh hectares during the same period last year. The biggest decline was seen in Karnataka, where sowing was 13.01 lakh hectares, which is 2.41 lakh hectares less than 15.42 lakh hectares in 2024. Sowing in Maharashtra declined slightly to 11.76 lakh hectares (11.95 lakh hectares in 2024), sowing in Gujarat declined to 1.55 lakh hectares, which is 0.41 lakh hectares less than last year. And a slight increase has been registered in small producing states like Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Export of tur from Myanmar continues regularly and a total of 50,776 tonnes of tur was exported from there in July 2025, which is 20,605 tonnes more than the export of the month of June. Harvesting and preparation of the new crop of tur in African countries is likely to start from August. There is a possibility of increase in the supply of tur from Africa in the coming months. Due to weakening of selling by importers and increase in demand, the price of tur lemon in Chennai registered an improvement of Rs 50 per quintal this week and with this improvement the price reached Rs 6300/6350 per quintal at the weekend. While, there was no increase or decrease in the prices of Mumbai African Tuvar this week and the prices remained stable at Mozambique white Rs. 5800/5850, Gajari Rs. 5600/5650, Matwara Rs. 5600, Malawi Rs. 5500 and Sudan Rs. 6300 per quintal at the end of the week.
Burma
Due to increased selling by exporters and sluggish buying, the prices of Burma Tuvar witnessed a rise of $10 per ton this week and with this rise and fall, the price remained at $720 per ton at the end of the week.
Delhi
Due to the support of the rise in the port and improvement in demand, during the current week, Delhi Tuvar Lemon saw an improvement of Rs. 50 per quintal and Desi Tuvar also saw an improvement of Rs. 50 per quintal and with this improvement, the prices at the end of the week became Lemon Rs. 6750/6775 and Desi Rs. 6900/7000 per quintal.
Maharashtra
Due to slow buying and selling, prices of Maharashtra tuvar witnessed a fall of Rs. 50/100 per quintal during the current week and with this rise and fall, the prices remained at Solapur Rs. 5800/6750, Akola Rs. 6950, Latur Rs. 6600/6650, Nagpur Rs. 6950 and Hinganghat Rs. 6200/6900 per quintal.
Karnataka
Due to weak buying, prices of Karnataka tuvar witnessed a fall of Rs. 100 per quintal during the current week and with this fall, the prices remained at Gulbarga Rs. 6000/6700, Raichur Rs. 5991/6480, Bidar Rs. 6414/6921, Yadgir Rs. 5403/6641 and Talikot Rs. 6069/6425 per quintal.
Madhya Pradesh
Due to sluggish demand, prices of Madhya Pradesh tuvar witnessed a fall of Rs. 50 per quintal this week and with this fall, the prices remained at Katni Rs. 6700/6850, Jabalpur Rs. 5000/6400 and Pipariya Rs. 5500/6575 per quintal at the weekend.
Others
Due to weak buying, Kanpur tuvar witnessed a fall of Rs. 50 per quintal this week and the prices remained at Rs. 6650 per quintal at the weekend. While, no rise or fall was seen in the prices of Raipur tuvar this week and the prices remained stable at Rs. 6900/7100 per quintal at the weekend.
Tuvar Dal
Due to the impact of fall in Tuvar prices and weak buying, Tuvar Dal prices witnessed a fall of Rs. 100/200 per quintal during the current week and with this fall, the weekend prices stood at Delhi Fatka Rs. 9800/10325, Katni Fatka Rs. 9000/9450, Akola Rs. 9100/10400, Latur Fatka Rs. 10100/10300, Gulbarga Fatka Rs. 9300/10000 and Kanpur Fatka Rs. 10400/10500 per quintal.
