Wheat prices rise in UP due to strong trade demand
New Delhi. Although at the national level, the government procurement of wheat for the central pool increased to 294.62 lakh tonnes by May 15, 2025, but Madhya Pradesh had a special contribution in it.
Government procurement
On the other hand, in Uttar Pradesh, government agencies have got the opportunity to buy only 10 lakh tonnes of wheat against the fixed target of 30 lakh tonnes because there is more activity of flour millers / processors and traders / stockists who are buying wheat from farmers at a higher price than Rs 2425 per quintal announced by the Central Government.
Price
During the week of May 10 to 16, the price of wheat generally remained either stable or slightly higher at the national level. In Delhi, the price improved by Rs 15 to Rs 2745/2750 per quintal and in Indore by Rs 80 to Rs 2400/3940 per quintal, but fell by Rs 100 in Rajkot and Rs 50 in Dewas.
MP / Rajasthan
The price remained stable in most other mandis of Madhya Pradesh. No significant fluctuation was seen in the price of wheat in the mandis of Rajasthan as well, while heavy arrival of wheat continued in the mandis of Kota and Bundi. In Rajasthan, farmers are being given an additional bonus of Rs 150 per quintal over MSP on government purchase of wheat, due to which this time the price has almost doubled compared to last year. In Madhya Pradesh too, due to the additional bonus of Rs 175 per quintal, a tremendous increase was recorded in the purchase of wheat. Only Uttar Pradesh is lagging far behind in terms of wheat purchase.
Uttar Pradesh
During the week under review, the price of wheat increased by 15 to 30 rupees per quintal in various mandis of Uttar Pradesh, while in Gorakhpur the price jumped by 80 rupees to reach 2520 rupees per quintal. The arrival of wheat in the mandis is less than normal while the trade demand remains strong. In some mandis, the price had fallen below the minimum support price, but now it has improved and reached above it.
Commercial purchase
It is believed that during the current year, the trade purchase of wheat has increased by at least 5 lakh tonnes compared to last year. There has been no unexpected increase in the prices of wheat in UP, but still its arrival at government procurement centers is decreasing.
