Wheat prices fall amid sluggish trading

New Delhi. Contrary to expectations, the wheat market witnessed a sluggish trend during October 4-10. Prices remained stable at previous levels in most markets in Madhya Pradesh and Delhi, while prices fell by 20 to 40 rupees per quintal in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
Gujarat / Maharashtra
On the other hand, prices in Gujarat and Maharashtra increased by 50-100 rupees in some places. Given the controlled market prices and smooth supply, the government does not feel the need to sell wheat from its stocks under the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS). Wheat arrivals in markets are normal.
Prices
During the week under review, wheat prices remained at the previous level of ₹2810/2835 per quintal, but increased by ₹100 to ₹2500/3100 per quintal in Rajkot, Gujarat, and by ₹50 to ₹2500/2650 per quintal in Jalna, Maharashtra.
Madhya Pradesh/Rajasthan
On the other hand, wheat prices remained stable in most markets in Madhya Pradesh, while in Itarsi, prices fell by ₹20 to ₹2450/2530 per quintal. Similarly, wheat prices fell by ₹40 to ₹2450/2610 per quintal in Kota market, Rajasthan, and by ₹30 to ₹2470/2540 per quintal in Bundi market.
Arrivals
Wheat arrivals in Kota increased from 3000 bags to 10,000 bags. Arrivals in Bundi ranged from 2,000 to 4,000 bags.
Uttar Pradesh
Wheat prices remained soft in most major markets in Uttar Pradesh, including Hardoi, Shahjahanpur, Gorakhpur, Gonda, and Mainpuri. Storage limits are in place, and wheat is being supplied normally in the markets. Government stocks are also under pressure.
Softness/Stability
It was hoped that the announcement of the minimum support price (MSP) for wheat for the 2025-26 Rabi marketing season would provide some psychological support to the market, but this did not materialize. Prices remained stable or soft, which is unusual for this time. Sowing is also expected to begin soon.
