Bhopal. Madhya Pradesh ranks second after Uttar Pradesh in terms of wheat sowing area and production. Similarly, it has also become second only to Punjab in contributing the highest amount of wheat to the central pool.

Last year, when the central government fixed the minimum support price (MSP) for wheat at Rs 2,425 per quintal, the Madhya Pradesh government announced an additional bonus of Rs 175 above this amount.

As a result, wheat producers in Madhya Pradesh received a price of Rs 2,600 per quintal. For the 2025-26 season, the government has increased the MSP for wheat by Rs 160 to Rs 2,585 per quintal, while the Madhya Pradesh government has announced an additional bonus of Rs 115, ensuring farmers receive a price of Rs 2,700 per quintal for their next wheat crop.

Since Madhya Pradesh procures a large quantity of wheat for the central pool, farmers are confident of attractive and profitable returns. Furthermore, traders and millers will also have to purchase wheat at the support price or higher.

The announcement of an additional bonus by the state government at the beginning of the sowing season is expected to increase the enthusiasm and interest of Madhya Pradesh farmers in cultivating wheat.

Due to good monsoon rains in the state, there are abundant water reserves in dams and reservoirs, and there is no problem with soil moisture.

Consequently, the acreage and production of this most important food grain of the Rabi season are expected to increase. This may also lead to an increase in government wheat procurement.

The Food Corporation of India will purchase wheat from farmers at a rate of Rs. 2585 per quintal, with the remaining amount paid by the state government.

During the 2025 Rabi marketing season, more than 75 lakh tonnes of wheat was procured in the state, while it would not be surprising if it increases to above 80 lakh tonnes in the 2026 Rabi marketing season.
