Export sales data for the week ending February 12 showed 287,974 MT of wheat sold. This was down 40.99% from the previous week and 45.94% lower than the same week last year. Mexico was the top buyer at 59,000 MT, followed by the Philippines with 55,000 MT and the Dominican Republic with 46,200 MT.
The February 17 Commitment of Traders report showed spec funds cutting 17,618 contracts from their net short position in Chicago wheat, reducing it to 68,037 contracts. In Kansas City wheat, they trimmed 8,887 contracts, bringing the net short to 10,609 contracts.
Much of the US HRW wheat region is expected to remain dry next week. NOAA’s 90-day CPC outlook indicates warmer-than-normal temperatures in the southern regions and continued dryness through May.
French soft wheat ratings are reported at 88% good/excellent, down 3 percentage points from the previous week.
