Mumbai. However, during the current year, compared to last year, the cotton sowing area at the national level has decreased by about 9 percent or 11 lakh hectares from 123.71 lakh hectares to 112.76 lakh hectares and in some areas, the crop was also damaged due to heavy rains and severe floods, due to which a significant decline in the total production of cotton was being feared, but some critics believe that the condition of the remaining cotton crop is quite good and its yield rate is seen to be high, due to which the total production of cotton can reach around the last season. This time there was very little infestation of pests and diseases on the cotton crop and there was good rain at the right time.
The director of the Central Cotton Research Institute in Nagpur says that overall the condition of the crop is better than last year and is also improving continuously. Its yield rate is expected to remain high, due to which the total production of cotton can be equal to last year. According to the Union Agriculture Ministry, during the 2023-24 season, there was no major threat from pink bollworm kit of 325.22 lakh bales (each bale of 170 kg) in the country and the infestation of sucking insects is also being seen very less. Due to heavy rains, pests and diseases did not get a chance to spread. Its outbreak was seen to some extent in the northern states, but its outbreak has not yet been seen in the central and southern provinces.
The arrival of cotton in the markets of the northern states is increasing and due to limited outbreak of pests and diseases, its quality is looking better. The condition of the crop is also very good in other states of the country. New goods are being supplied in some areas and its pace will continue to increase in the future. A reviewer has estimated the production of 361 lakh bales of cotton.
