17.85 lakh hectares of crops damaged by rains in Maharashtra: Agriculture Minister
★ According to Maharashtra’s Agriculture Minister, standing crops ready for harvest were severely affected by rains. The most damage occurred in Nanded, where 7.93 lakh hectares were impacted. Losses were also reported in Washim (2 lakh ha), Yavatmal (3.2 lakh ha), Dharashiv (1.6 lakh ha), and Akola (1.77 lakh ha). Additionally, crops in Solapur, Buldhana, and nearby regions were hit.
★ Other districts such as Hingoli, Parbhani, Amravati, Sangli, Beed, Latur, Dhule, Jalgaon, Nashik, Satara, Kolhapur, Gadchiroli, Nagpur, and Pune also suffered crop damage.
★ As per the department, soybean, maize, cotton, urad, tur, moong, jowar, and turmeric—essentially all kharif crops—were affected.
★ Continuous rains over the past two months have damaged crops across several talukas/districts in the state.
★ Maharashtra ranks among the top five states in the country in terms of foodgrain production.
