Mumbai. Data compiled by Solvent Extractors Association of India (SIAI), a leading industry body, shows that during the first half of the current calendar year i.e. January-June 2025, castor oil exports from India could only reach 3,65,111 tonnes, which was less than the shipments of the same period last year.

Compared to the same months last year, this year castor oil exports slipped from 53,204 tonnes to 52,926 tonnes in January, fell from 65,663 tonnes to 58,092 tonnes in February, fell from 72,801 tonnes to 63,373 tonnes in April and slid from 89,786 tonnes to 68,982 tonnes in May.

Similarly, in June also, the export of castor oil reached 56,412 tonnes, which was less than the shipment of 59737 tonnes in June 2024. But in March, its export improved from 65,170 tonnes to 65,326 tonnes.

According to the data of the association, during the entire period (January-December) of the year 2024, a total of 6,49,510 tonnes of castor oil was exported from the country, whereas it was recorded at 6,29,418 tonnes in the last year 2023 and 5,82,399 tonnes in 2022.

This clearly indicates that the export of this important industrial oil is increasing every year from the country. Castor oil is imported from India on a large scale in many countries of the world.

India is the largest producer of castor in the world and the leading exporter of castor oil and castor meal. India continues to dominate the global export market of value-added castor products and no other country is in a position

to challenge it. In India, the largest production of castor is in Gujarat and Rajasthan, while it is also produced in some other states including Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
