Jaipur. The pace of mustard arrival has started slowing down due to softening of prices in wholesale markets, while the estimate of its domestic production has also been revised.

Data compiled by Anil Chatar, Managing Director of Marudhar Trading Agency, a popular and reliable establishment located in the grain market of Chandpole, Jaipur, shows that in the first half of the current Rabi marketing season i.e.

from March to August 2024, a total of 85 lakh tonnes of mustard arrived in wholesale markets and government procurement centers.

Out of this, 65 lakh tonnes were recorded in wholesale markets and 20 lakh tonnes at government procurement centers. In the Rabi Oilseeds-Oil Seminar, the production of 123 lakh tonnes of mustard was estimated during the 2023-24 season,

which has now been reduced to 115 lakh tonnes. Under this, the production estimate of Uttar Pradesh has been reduced from 18 lakh tonnes to 13 lakh tonnes,

Madhya Pradesh from 16 lakh tonnes to 13 lakh tonnes, while the production estimate of 53 lakh tonnes in Rajasthan, 12 lakh tonnes in Punjab-Haryana,

5.00 lakh tonnes in Gujarat and 19 lakh tonnes in other states of the country including Bengal-Bihar has been retained. Out of this estimated production of 115 lakh tonnes,

7 lakh tonnes of mustard had arrived in February, but due to the presence of previous outstanding stock of 12 lakh tonnes, its total availability for the March-February season was estimated to be 120 lakh tonnes.

It is estimated that 64.50 lakh tonnes of mustard will be crushed in the country during March-August. The demand-supply equation is looking like this.
