Mumbai. Data compiled by a leading industry organization - Solvent Extractors Association of India (SIAI) shows that only about 50 thousand tonnes of castor oil was exported from the country in July 2025, which was the lowest in the last six months.

Earlier, 56 thousand tonnes of castor oil was exported in June, 69 thousand tonnes in May, 63 thousand tonnes in April, 65 thousand tonnes in March, 58 thousand tonnes in February and 53 thousand tonnes in January 2025.

In this way, a total of 4.15 lakh tonnes of castor oil was exported from the country during the first seven months of the current calendar year i.e. January-July 2025. In July 2024, a little more than 47 thousand tonnes of castor oil was shipped, compared to which the performance of July 2025 was slightly better.

The pace of exports is likely to remain slow for the next few months. The data of the association shows that during the entire period of the year 2024 (January-December), a total of about 6.50 lakh tonnes of castor oil was exported from India, which was 21 thousand tonnes more than the shipment of 6.29 lakh tonnes in the year 2023. Prior to that, in the year 2022, a little more than 5.82 lakh tonnes of castor oil was sent abroad.

In fact, the weak season for export of castor oil starts from July itself. At present, sowing of castor is going on in the country. Its major producing states include Gujarat and Rajasthan.

Apart from this, it is also cultivated in a limited area in some other states including Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. In South India, the new crop of castor is ready and comes to the markets in October-November, but due to limited production there, the goods are consumed quickly.

After this, new castor goods come to Rajasthan in November-December and Gujarat in January-February. More than 70 percent of the country's castor is produced in Gujarat.

There is a strong supply of new material till May-June and after that the arrival starts decreasing. Due to this, crushers-processors get less raw material and the production and export of castor oil starts weakening.
