New Delhi. The Central Government has authorized the production of 3.24 billion litres of ethanol using surplus rice held by the Food Corporation of India (FCI). This decision will be applicable for the first nine months of the current marketing season (November–October).
A quota of 7.2 million tonnes (72 lakh tonnes) of government-held rice has been allocated to distillers for the production of this 3.24 billion litres of ethanol. This quota will remain effective until June 30, 2027.
Distillers are permitted to supply a maximum of 1.08 billion litres of ethanol to oil marketing companies in each quarter. Should the supply volume in any given quarter exceed this limit, the excess will be adjusted in the subsequent quarter. Grain-based distilleries are required to ensure compliance with this provision.
