Toronto. Although Canadian chickpea exports were somewhat weaker in September, strong shipments in August led to an overall increase in exports over the two-month period. According to a report by the government agency Statistics Canada, 19,265 tonnes of chickpeas were exported from Canada in August, a figure that dipped to 18,575 tonnes in September.
Official data indicates that in September 2026, Canada exported 5,250 tonnes of chickpeas to the United States, 3,271 tonnes to Pakistan, and 2,294 tonnes to Italy, with the remainder shipped to other countries.
During the two-month period of August–September 2026, total Canadian chickpea exports reached 37,840 tonnes—significantly higher than the 27,523 tonnes shipped during the same period in 2025. The new marketing season for chickpeas in Canada has already begun, and the harvesting and preparation of the new crop are now nearly complete.
Chickpea production in Canada is expected to decline this year compared to last year, and the quality of the crop has also been affected by unseasonal rainfall during the harvest period. Nevertheless, a substantial carryover stock of chickpeas remains available.
