America is also angry with India for not importing GM corn

New Delhi. On the pretext of buying petroleum and weapons (defense equipment) from Russia, America has imposed a huge tariff of 50 percent on the import of many Indian products, while most analysts believe that this step of America is like 'an elephant's external tusk'.

The reality is that America wants to bring its GM corn and soybean to the Indian markets, but the Modi government is not ready to give permission for this.

A crisis for America has also come from China. China has been the main buyer of American corn and soybean, but now it is showing very little interest in buying it. This has also angered America and it has threatened to impose a tariff of 50 to 100 percent on China.

Meanwhile, the Commerce Minister of America has started an attempt to corner or harass India on corn import. He says that India is not interested in importing American corn.

But the question arises that when India itself is among the top 10 corn producing countries in the world, then why would it want to import it from America.

India remained an exporting country till the year 2022-23. This year the domestic production of maize is expected to be better.

It is true that the demand and consumption of maize for ethanol production in India is increasing rapidly and hence if the production does not increase accordingly in the coming years, then there may be a need for its huge import from abroad.

Sufficient maize is being produced to meet other purposes in the domestic division and there is a possibility of its demand and supply balance getting disturbed only due to the ethanol industry.

India is making every possible effort to increase the production of maize. In fact, America is putting heavy pressure on India to open maize imports due to China's indifference.

When the US Commerce Minister was asked why India does not import maize from America, he said irritably that India repeatedly repeats that it is a country with a huge population of 140 crores.

If this is so, then why do 140 crore people not buy even a single grain of maize from America. On the one hand, (India) sells all kinds of goods to America but does not buy its maize and soybean.

India has imposed heavy tariffs on all products. It is worth mentioning that America is the largest producer and exporter of maize in the world and contributes 30-32 percent to its global production.
