Area of Kharif crops in Rajasthan is equal to last year

Jaipur. Although the total production area of Kharif crops in the western state of the country- Rajasthan has reached close to 157.77 lakh hectares this year which is almost equal to the sowing area of 157.74 lakh hectares in the same period last year, but in view of the damage being caused to the crops due to heavy rains and dangerous floods, there is a possibility of a decrease in Kharif production there.
As per the latest data of the State Agriculture Department, in Rajasthan, during the current Kharif season in comparison to last year, the production area of paddy and coarse grains has improved from 62.34 lakh hectare to 63.06 lakh hectare, sowing area of pulses has improved from 36.12 lakh hectare to 36.52 lakh hectare,
area of oilseeds has increased from 22.87 lakh hectare to 23.54 lakh hectare and area of cotton has jumped from 5.20 lakh hectare to 6.29 lakh hectare, but the sowing area of Guar has slipped from 27.21 lakh hectare to 24.51 lakh hectare and area of sugarcane has slipped from 5 thousand hectare to 4 thousand hectare.
According to official data, during the period under review, paddy production area in Rajasthan improved from 2.98 lakh hectare to 3.44 lakh hectare, area of jowar improved from 6.40 lakh hectare to 6.67 lakh hectare and area of maize increased from 9.70 lakh hectare to 9.85 lakh hectare but sowing area of millet fell from 43.25 lakh hectare to 43.15 lakh hectare.
Among pulses, production area of moong increased from 23.15 lakh hectare to 23.58 lakh hectare, sowing area of urad improved from 2.98 lakh hectare to 3.13 lakh hectare, area of chola increased from 46 thousand hectare to 58 thousand hectare and area of tuvar jumped from 3 thousand hectare to 15 thousand hectare while area of moth fell from 9.50 lakh hectare to 9.08 lakh hectare. There are reports of damage to moong and moth crops due to floods and rains.
In Rajasthan, in the current Kharif season, compared to last year, the area under sesame improved from 1.83 lakh hectares to 1.92 lakh hectares,
groundnut production area jumped from 8.55 lakh hectares to 9.91 lakh hectares and castor area increased from 1.70 lakh hectares to 1.88 lakh hectares. But the sowing area of soybean decreased from 10.79 lakh hectares and got stuck at 9.83 lakh hectares.
