Australia is once again expected to have a great production of gram

Brisbane. A leading trade analyst has reported that Australia’s gram production soared nearly four times from 5.13 lakh tonnes in the 2023-24 season to a record 23.50 lakh tonnes in 2024-25.
For the 2025-26 season, an initial estimate places production at 23.20 lakh tonnes, but if weather and rainfall remain favourable during August-September, output could rise to a historic high of 26-27 lakh tonnes. Sowing is nearing completion and conditions are currently quite favourable.
Another analyst has projected that gram exports from Australia could reach a record 23 lakh tonnes in the ongoing 2024-25 marketing season, though this may decline slightly to 21.50 lakh tonnes in 2025-26. However, a more cautious trade analyst believes the production estimate for 2025-26 is overly optimistic,
suggesting actual output may be between 16 to 18 lakh tonnes. Despite this, consistent rainfall in key producing regions has meant that drought has not been a concern for the current crop.
Australia rarely experiences ideal weather for gram crops two years in a row, leading some critics to caution that adverse weather could affect yields in certain areas in the coming months.
Still, if favourable conditions persist, production could surpass the levels seen in the 2024-25 season.
The Australian government has officially estimated gram production at 22 lakh tonnes for 2024-25, but this is believed to be lower than the actual output.
More than 20 lakh tonnes have already been exported, and both producers and traders still hold significant stock. According to reports, 3.95 lakh tonnes of gram were exported in January, with this figure revised to 5.77 lakh tonnes in the April report.
