Australia's Chickpea and Lentil Exports: India Emerges as Largest Importer
★ According to data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), India was the largest importer of both chickpeas and lentils from Australia during the three-month period from December to February.
★ In the case of chickpeas, Australia exported a total of 1,594,741 tonnes during this period, out of which India alone imported 1,214,986 tonnes. Pakistan followed with 135,689 tonnes, and Bangladesh imported 201,873 tonnes. Other importing countries included the UAE, Nepal, the UK, Canada, and Malaysia.
★ India also led in lentil imports. Between December and February, India imported 251,163 tonnes of lentils, nearly half of the total 569,119 tonnes exported by Australia. Bangladesh was the second-largest importer with 209,443 tonnes, followed by Sri Lanka with 45,495 tonnes and Pakistan with 13,930 tonnes.
