The Bharat Brand food program, launched in July 2023, has seen significant success in its first phase, with growing sales of essential food products aimed at stabilizing prices and ensuring affordability for consumers. According to recent official figures, 12.35 lakh tonnes of gram dal (chana dal) have been sold under the Bharat Brand so far, alongside 5663 tonnes of moong dal and 118 tonnes of lentil dal. The program, initially focusing on pulses, has expanded to include wheat flour and rice, which are available at subsidized rates.

The first phase of the program also saw the sale of 15.20 lakh tonnes of Bharat flour, with 2952 tonnes sold in the ongoing second phase. Similarly, 14.58 lakh tonnes of Bharat rice were sold in the first phase, with 3413 tonnes sold in the second phase. Prices for flour and rice were slightly raised for the second phase.

These products are mainly distributed through government agencies such as NAFED, NCCF, and Kendriya Bhandaar, as well as through e-commerce platforms, retail chains, and mobile vans. The government warehouses provide stock for processing and packing, helping control the price of gram dal, which has been notably high in the open market. The Bharat Brand scheme aims to increase supply, improve availability, and maintain stable prices for essential food items across the country.
