★ China has approved 6 Indian companies to export rapeseed meal (mustard cake) in bulk.
★ In April 2025, India exported a total of 2.13 lakh tonnes of mustard meal, of which 56,927 tonnes were shipped to China.
★ In comparison, in April 2024, total exports were 2.3 lakh tonnes, but only 3,084 tonnes went to China.
★ So far in 2024-25, China has imported 77,135 tonnes of rapeseed meal.
★ Between November and April 2025, India exported a total of 9.11 lakh tonnes of meal, slightly lower than 9.3 lakh tonnes during the same period last year.
★ It is now expected that exports to China may reach 4 to 5 lakh tonnes.
★ The price of Indian rapeseed meal is USD 203 per tonne (ex-Kandla FAS), while the international price is USD 308 per tonne (ex-Hamburg).
★ This is a major opportunity for India, especially since the industry has been struggling due to increased use of DDGS (Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles) and low crushing demand.
★ If everything goes well, there could be a strong revival in mustard demand.
