Bran Export Allowed Amid Strong Industry Demand

New Delhi. Accepting the strong demand of flour millers/processors, the Central Government has taken a decision in principle to allow the export of bran or wheat husk (wheat bran) and informed sources say that an official notification to this effect may be issued soon.

It is understood that some rules and conditions may be determined for the export of wheat bran and licenses or permits may be issued to exporters. A maximum of 1000 tonnes of bran shipment can be approved on one license and the period of export of bran can be valid for one year.

The exporters will have to export wheat bran at their own level and there will be no involvement of any third agency (APEDA, NCEL) etc. in this.

It is understood that after shipping 70 percent of the total allotted quantity, the license may be issued to the exporters again and the government will keep an eye on the entire process of export shipment.

Since the export of wheat and its value-added products - flour, maida, semolina and bran - is banned from 2022, exporters will have to look for new buyers after getting statutory approval for shipment.

Other supplier countries have access to traditional markets and India will have to face competition from them. The domestic market price of bran has come down significantly because its demand and consumption has decreased significantly.

But after the process of export shipment starts, its prices are expected to improve, which will provide some relief to Indian flour millers / processors. The industry is waiting for a government circular.
