Canadian Lentils: AAFC April Report
2025-26
★ During August to February, Canadian lentil exports totaled about 1.38 million tonnes, slightly lower than the same period in 2024-25. For the full crop year, exports are forecast at 2.2 million tonnes, with India, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates as the key markets. Total supply is expected to rise by 1.2 million tonnes to a record 3.97 million tonnes, leading to a sharp increase in carry-out stocks to around 1.6 million tonnes. Due to higher global supply and stocks, the average price is expected to decline to about $510 per tonne.
★ In March, on-farm prices in Saskatchewan fell by $35 per tonne for large green lentils and by $20 per tonne for red lentils. For the full season, large green lentils are expected to maintain an average premium of $70 per tonne over red lentils, compared to a much higher premium in 2024-25.

2026-27
★ Seeded area in Canada is expected to decline to 1.67 million hectares due to lower returns compared to other crops. With normal yields, production is forecast to fall to 2.35 million tonnes, but total supply is expected to remain relatively stable at around 3.99 million tonnes due to higher carry-in stocks. Exports are projected to remain steady at 2.2 million tonnes. Carry-out stocks are expected to decline slightly, which may provide some support to prices. The average price is forecast to rise to about $540 per tonne, supported by lower global supply.

United States
★ For 2026-27, lentil seeded area in the US is expected to decline by 22% to about 0.83 million acres.
