CCI Begins Cotton Sales for 2024-25; Mills Show Interest in Quality Cotton
★ The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) began selling cotton procured during the 2024-25 marketing season on Wednesday.
★ CCI has set a base price of Rs. 54,000-Rs. 55,500 per candy (356 kg), while market prices remain between Rs. 52,500-Rs. 54,000 per candy.
★ On the first day, CCI offered 6,02,300 bales (170 kg per bale) of new and old cotton for sale, but mills purchased only 6,800 bales, and traders bought just 300 bales.
★ This season, CCI procured 94 lakh bales at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs. 7,521 per quintal. The purchases included 40 lakh bales from Telangana, 28 lakh bales from Maharashtra, and 11 lakh bales from Gujarat.
★ CCI remains the largest stockholder of cotton. The total cotton production for the 2024-25 season is estimated at 301.75 lakh bales.
★ Global market pressures are also affecting prices, as the U.S. has imposed tariffs on cotton exports to China.
