CCI Buys 525 Lakh Quintals of Cotton from Farmers at MSP

New Delhi: The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) has procured 525 lakh quintals of cotton (equivalent to 100 lakh bales) at Minimum Support Price (MSP) during the 2024-25 cotton season (October to September), benefiting nearly 21 lakh farmers across the country.


As per the Union Ministry of Textiles, around Rs. 37,450 crore has been directly transferred to farmers’ bank accounts for this procurement done under the Price Support Scheme.


The MSP for the season is set at Rs. 7121 per quintal for medium-fiber cotton and Rs. 7521 per quintal for long-fiber varieties.


India’s total cotton production for 2024-25 is estimated at 294.25 lakh bales, out of which 263 lakh bales arrived in the market by the end of March. The government’s purchase accounts for 34% of the total production and 38% of the total arrivals.


The highest procurement took place in Telangana (40 lakh bales), followed by Maharashtra (30 lakh) and Gujarat (14 lakh).


Purchases also occurred in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and the Northern Zone.


CCI has operated 508 purchase centres nationwide, many of which remain active as procurement continues.
