CCI Sells Cotton at Discount – 15 Lakh Bales Sold
★ 15 days ago, after the government opened the window for cotton imports, CCI started offering a discount of ₹2,000 per candy on its cotton sales.
★ In the last 15 days, 15 lakh bales of cotton have been sold, leaving 12 lakh bales of stock still available with CCI.
★ From 1st October, CCI will begin new cotton procurement. Before that, warehouses are being cleared through discounted sales.
★ Procurement will start from 1st October in Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, from 15th October in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Odisha, and from 21st October in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.
★ According to CAI, the opening stock of cotton for the season starting October stood at a 5-year high of 61 lakh bales, much higher than last year’s 39.19 lakh bales. For 2024-25, the opening stock is estimated at 41 lakh bales, compared to only 15 lakh bales in 2023-24, which means nearly three times higher.
