Moscow. Although recently there were reports that the condition of pulse crops in Russia is weak and its production may decrease there, but a Russian analyst has denied this news and said that the condition of the crop is better and its yield is expected to be normal.

Some countries had spread such false news only with the aim of raising the global market price. Usually the export offer price of peas and lentils in Russia remains below Canada, but last week the price of pulses of both the countries had come to almost the same level.

The CEO of Russian Pulses Analytics believes that the production of pulses in Russia during the current year will be better than last year. Although farmers were initially planning to reduce the sowing area of pulses in view of the weak market price, but looking at the weather conditions, they changed their mind.

Due to less snowfall during winter in the Volga division, the condition of autumn grain crops deteriorated and hence the need for re-sowing was felt there. In Saratov Oblast region, chickpea (kabuli) is cultivated on a large scale and there has been no reduction in the area.

As far as peas are concerned, it is cultivated in all parts of Russia, therefore the weak condition of the crop in Rostov and Brasnodar regions will be compensated by better production in the Central region and Stavropol division. It is difficult to estimate the production of peas in Siberia. However, the production of peas there is expected to be better than last year.

There has been a good increase in the area of sowing of lentils. In Bolgograd and Saratov, thick green lentils are produced and in Stavropol and Vladimir, small green lentils and red lentils are produced.

This year, the production of 45 lakh tons of peas (mainly yellow) is estimated in Russia, while the production of 8 lakh tons of chickpeas and 6 lakh tons of lentils is expected.
