Coriander Production Likely to Remain Normal Despite Drop in Sowing Area

New Delhi. Despite a fall in the sowing area, the domestic production of coriander during the 2024-25 season is expected to remain normal or even slightly better than last year.
While sowing increased marginally in Gujarat, it declined in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. However, favorable weather conditions and timely rainfall are expected to boost the average yield rate by 12 to 15 percent, helping to offset the decline in area.
These three states contribute the most to India's coriander production, and this season, the crop has benefited from ideal temperature and the absence of any major natural disasters, indicating improved quality and yield.
The drop in cultivation area is attributed to crop diversification and a shift by farmers towards higher-value crops.
In terms of pricing, a significant rise is unlikely due to the steady arrival of the new crop. Coriander prices are expected to remain stable or slightly softer in the near term.
However, if domestic and export demand picks up, prices may see some improvement. With grain quality reported to be good, both Disawari traders and foreign importers are expected to remain active.
Harvesting is underway, and supply to markets is gradually increasing. Many traders are currently following a ‘wait and watch’ approach.
While domestic demand is expected to stay normal, exports to South-East Asia, the Middle East, and the Gulf countries will be crucial in determining future price trends.
