ICE cotton futures showed a mixed trend on Thursday. Nearby contracts declined by 7 to 9 points, while deferred contracts gained 6 to 12 points. Crude oil prices rose by $2.90 per barrel during the session, while the US Dollar Index declined by 0.078 points.
Cotton harvesting could be disrupted in parts of the southeastern United States over the weekend due to Hurricane Isaias. Rainfall of 2 to 5 inches is expected across much of the region extending from the Mississippi River to the Atlantic coast.
According to USDA’s export sales report, cotton sales for the week ending October 1 totaled 165,070 running bales (RB). This was down 18.51% from the previous week. Vietnam purchased 61,800 RB, while Pakistan bought 45,900 RB. Cotton sales for the 2027/28 marketing year totaled 56,058 RB, including 44,100 RB sold to China.
Cotton shipments totaled 161,588 RB, recovering from the previous week and increasing by 2.45% compared with the same week last year. Vietnam was the largest destination, receiving 39,600 RB, while India received 18,100 RB.
According to The Seam, 1,421 bales of cotton were sold on Wednesday at an average price of 75.75 cents per pound. The Cotlook A Index rose another 25 points on October 7 to 91.70.
ICE-certified cotton stocks remained unchanged on October 7 at 17,756 bales. On Thursday, the Adjusted World Price (AWP) declined by another 135 points to 63.81 cents per pound.
