Cyclone Fengal, which originated in the Bay of Bengal, has caused severe weather disruptions in Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu, and neighboring regions.

The cyclone has brought intense rainfall and strong winds, leading to significant flooding, particularly affecting agricultural fields. This is expected to negatively impact the sowing and growth of Rabi crops.

In Pondicherry, the rainfall was so heavy that it broke a 30-year-old record. As of 8:30 AM on December 1st, the area received 48.4 cm of rain in just 24 hours, marking the highest rainfall in a single day since 1995.

The heavy rainfall continues, with the storm now affecting areas like Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and surrounding regions.

The Meteorological Department reported that the cyclone is near Pondicherry, about 30 km from Cuddalore, 40 km from Villupuram, and 120 km from Chennai.

While the cyclone is expected to intensify, it may eventually weaken and transform into a deep depression as it moves westward, possibly bringing more rain to northern Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.

The storm has also impacted areas like Tirupati, Chittoor, Tiruvannamalai, Salem, Tiruchirapalli, Murumpet, and Cuddalore, with heavy rainfall reported in Royal Seema of Andhra Pradesh and southern interior Karnataka.

The Meteorological Department forecasts continued heavy to very heavy rains across these regions in the coming days.
