Amaravati. In Andhra Pradesh—a state reeling from the severe cyclonic storms 'Arnab' and 'Murasu'—the government has issued a directive to expedite the settlement of farmers' crop insurance claims, aiming to prevent any further deterioration in the economic condition of agricultural producers.
It is noteworthy that the heavy rainfall accompanying these two storms has caused extensive damage to Kharif crops across thousands of hectares in Andhra Pradesh.
Affected crops include paddy, maize, and cotton, as well as various spices; fruit and vegetable crops have also sustained damage. Preliminary estimates suggest that the 'Murasu' cyclone alone has destroyed crops across more than 30,000 hectares.
Previously, it was estimated that the 'Arnab' cyclone had caused losses amounting to approximately 46 billion rupees. This has created a severe crisis for the livelihoods of farmers. An appeal for assistance has been made to the Central Government. More than 15 districts in Andhra Pradesh have been impacted by these storms.
