Edible Oil Prices Surge; Mustard and Sunflower Oil See Sharpest Rise: Ministry of Consumer Affairs
According to the report released on 18 April 2025, retail and wholesale prices of major edible oils have seen a sharp rise on a year-on-year basis.
Retail price of mustard oil stood at ₹170.60/kg, up 25.44% from the previous year. Sunflower oil was priced at ₹159.51/kg, showing a 28.69% annual increase.
Vanaspati and soybean oils also rose by 21.78% and 18.21% respectively.
Palm oil recorded the steepest jump, priced at ₹137.60/kg — a rise of 34.11% over last year.
The wholesale market followed the same trend. Palm oil’s wholesale price reached ₹13,015.06 per quintal, up 36.27% from ₹9,551.16 last year.
Mustard and sunflower oils were priced at ₹16,112.28 and ₹15,217.13 per quintal respectively, showing a year-on-year increase of 27.33% and 31.85%.
