Ethanol Production and Capacity Growth
★ In recent years, India’s ethanol production capacity has witnessed remarkable growth.
★ By June 2025, the country’s total ethanol production capacity had reached around 18.2 billion litres, supported by 499 operational distilleries spread across key states.
★ Grain-based ethanol accounts for nearly 65-70 per cent of total output.
★ Uttar Pradesh alone produces more than 2 billion litres of ethanol annually.
★ By early 2025, the ethanol blending rate in petrol had risen to nearly 20 per cent.
★ In June 2025, the blending rate stood at 19.5 per cent.
★ The Food Corporation of India (FCI) allocated a record 5.2 million tonnes of rice for ethanol production in 2024-25.
