Exports of most spices increased in the first quarter

New Delhi. Spices Board data shows that during the first quarter of the current financial year, exports of most major spices except cumin and fennel increased well as compared to the same period of the previous financial year. The export performance of cumin remained weak.
According to the available data, during the quarter of April-June 2025, compared to April-June 2024, the export of turmeric improved by 3 percent from 46,499 tonnes to 950 tonnes, the export of coriander increased by 14 percent from 16,691 tonnes to 19,101 tonnes and the export of small cardamom jumped 29 percent from 1783 tonnes to 2301 tonnes.
Similarly, shipment of garlic increased by 9 percent from 11,149 tons to 12,147 tons, export of other seed spices increased by 9 percent from 10,720 tons to 11,673 tons and export of fenugreek increased by 12 percent from 11,940 tons to 13,439 tons.
On the other hand, during the period under review, export of cumin decreased by 19 percent from 78,086 tons to 62,861 tons and shipment of fennel fell by 74 percent from 34073 tons to 8907 tons.
Arrival of new cumin started in Turkey, Syria, Iran and Afghanistan from July-August. Overall exports of spices from India during the first quarter of FY 2025-26 rose to 5,19,469 tonnes, up 29 per cent from shipments of 4,02,220 tonnes in the same period of FY 2024-25.
During the period under review, exports of black pepper from the country also increased by 11 per cent to 5339 tonnes,
while exports of red pepper jumped 94 per cent to 2,21,029 tonnes as its global market price remained attractive. But exports of nutmeg and mace declined by 14 per cent and exports of mint products declined by 18 per cent.
