FAO raised the Rice Price Index by 1.4% in May.
★ According to data from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the global FAO All Rice Price Index averaged 106.3 points in May, up 1.4% compared to the previous month.
★ The increase was mainly driven by strong demand for basmati rice ahead of Eid-al-Adha.
★ Additionally, the 90-day suspension of U.S. import tariffs starting in early April also supported prices.
★ However, on a year-on-year basis, the index was down by 22.6%.
