Floods in Punjab Damage Kharif Crops, Rabi Sowing May Also Be Affected
★ All districts of the state have been declared disaster-hit.
★ Paddy and maize crops have been damaged in several areas, while cotton has also suffered losses.
★ Flooding has deposited silt in many fields. This not only damaged kharif crops but may also impact rabi sowing, as silt deposits in fields could hinder planting.
★ In Punjab, wheat and mustard are the major crops grown during the rabi season.
★ The actual situation will become clearer as water levels recede. Recently, the Agriculture Minister visited Punjab and described the situation as alarming.
