Food Grain Production Target Set at 36.25 Cr Tonnes for 2025-26

New Delhi. The Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister has said that in the National Agriculture Conference - Rabi Abhiyan - 2025, a target of production of 36.25 crore tonnes of food grains has been set for the entire marketing season of 2025-26, which includes rice, wheat, pulses and coarse grains.

According to the Agriculture Minister, during the entire marketing season (Kharif, Rabi and Zayed) of 2024-25, the gross production of food grains in the country increased to a peak level of 35.396 crore tonnes,

which was 124.10 lakh tonnes more than the target of 34.155 crore tonnes and 216.60 lakh tonnes or 6.5 percent more than the gross production of 2023-24 season.

On the first day of the two-day National Agriculture Conference- Rabi Abhiyan 2025, i.e. on September 15, in-depth discussions were held by senior agriculture officials of the Center and the states in different groups on six topics and now by organizing workshops in different states, a roadmap for the development of the agriculture sector will be prepared there.

In the agriculture conference, six issues like weather and climate tolerance, adequate availability of good quality seeds, fertilizers and pesticides, natural farming, horticulture, effective extension services and the role of Krishi Vigyan Kendras and coordination of centrally sponsored schemes were discussed in detail.

Along with this, in-depth discussions were also held on measures to increase the yield rate of pulses and oilseeds crops in the country.

According to the Agriculture Minister, 229 lakh tonnes of seeds will be required for the cultivation of various crops in the upcoming Rabi season, while much more than this, about 250 lakh tonnes of seed stock is available in the country.

Along with this, adequate availability of manure and chemical fertilizers will be ensured and fertilizer stock will be given as per the demand of the states.
