London. In light of record production in Latin American countries, especially Brazil, and encouraging output in Argentina, the International Grains Council (IGC) has estimated global soybean production to reach a new peak of 428 million tonnes during the 2025-26 season, marking a 2 percent increase compared to 2024-25. Brazil remains the world's leading producer and exporter of soybean, followed by the United States and Argentina.
In the ongoing 2024-25 season, Brazil's soybean production is projected to rise significantly to an all-time high of 169 million tonnes.
Harvesting preparations have already been completed there. In neighboring Argentina, soybean production is estimated at 48 to 49 million tonnes, with harvesting still underway.
Meanwhile, soybean sowing has already commenced in the United States. In Brazil and Argentina, sowing will begin around September-October, by which time the American crop will be ready for harvesting.
According to the IGC, global soybean trade is expected to grow by 2 million tonnes, from 181 million tonnes last year to 183 million tonnes this year, due to increased supply and higher demand in both traditional and emerging markets across Asia and Africa.
China remains the largest global importer of soybean, sourcing the majority of its imports from Brazil. Roughly 70 percent of Brazil’s soybean exports go to China.
The United States also ships most of its soybean exports to China. In addition to China, countries like Thailand, Mexico and Japan are also major importers.
Argentina, instead of exporting raw soybean, focuses on value-added products, maintaining its position as the top global exporter of soybean oil and soymeal. In India, Argentina is the primary source of imported soybean oil.
