Global Status of Urad (Black Gram)
★ In India, urad production for the current season is estimated at 20 lakh tons, Myanmar at 11 lakh tons, and Brazil at 50,000 tons, leading to a total availability of 31 lakh tons.
★ After a consumption of 27 lakh tons, an estimated stock of 4 lakh tons is expected to remain at the end of the season.
★ From April to December, 6 lakh tons of urad were imported, compared to 5 lakh tons during the same period last year. The total import for the entire fiscal year was 8 lakh tons.
★ Both domestic and Myanmar urad prices have dropped. On November 2, 2023, the prices for Burmese urad FAQ were $1155 and SQ at $1050 per ton. Currently, the prices have fallen to $775–865 per ton.
★ In June 2024, the prices for Chennai FAQ were Rs. 8900 and SQ Rs. 9575, while Mumbai urad FAQ was Rs. 9000, with local market prices ranging from Rs. 8700–9200. However, a significant decline in prices has been observed recently.
