Global Sunoil Outlook 2025/26
★ Ukraine–Russia supply competition heats up
★ Global sunflower seed production has dropped to a 4-year low of 524 LMT. Ukraine’s production is down 20% to 120 LMT, while Russia’s production is down 1.7% to 169 LMT.
★ India’s demand for sunflower oil has increased.
★ Ukraine’s exports to India rose 42% to 7.55 lakh tons but are still below the 20 LMT+ level. Russia remains ahead in price, credit, and logistics.
★ China’s sunflower oil imports are down to 16–17 LMT.
★ Supply from both Ukraine and Russia is expected to rise in 2025/26. The real battle will not be on volume alone, but also on price, trade terms, and logistics.
★ In India, sunflower oil prices saw mild fluctuations.
★ C&F prices were at $1,310/ton during the first week of September, eased to $1,305/ton by the weekend, dropped to $1,280 in the second week, and closed at $1,290 yesterday.
★ At Indian ports, CIF prices were at $1,019/ton in August 2024 (the lowest level of the year), climbed to $1,216/ton in July, and after a sharp rally in August averaged $1,264/ton. Tight global availability pushed prices higher, impacting imports.
★ According to SEA, sunflower oil imports from November to August 2025 were 23.49 LMT, compared to 31.14 LMT during the same period in 2024.
★ I-Grain India expects that due to higher prices, sunflower production in Ukraine and Russia may rise in the 2025/26 season, which could put pressure on prices.
