Good Pigeon Pea Crop in the Current Season
★ Farmers are not willing to sell at lower prices, and government stocks are very weak.
★ The government has allocated Rs. 1,000 crore for the Pulses Mission over six years to boost pulse production.
★ Additionally, a 100% crop procurement assurance has been given.
★ In the markets, prices are around or below the MSP, but there is no government procurement, clearly indicating that farmers are not ready to sell at lower prices. And why would they, when they saw prices at Rs. 12,000 and now the price is around Rs. 7,500?
★ India may import 1.1 million tons of tur (pigeon pea) in the current fiscal year.
★ On one hand, imports have increased, and on the other, production has been good, leading to supply exceeding demand, which has impacted prices.
★ If the price decline continues, it could have a significant effect on sowing in the upcoming Kharif season.
