Government Procurement of Chana and Mustard in Gujarat
★ The Gujarat government will begin the procurement of chana (gram) and mustard at Minimum Support Prices (MSP) from April 21, 2025.
★ For the current season, the MSP has been declared as ₹5,650 per quintal for chana and ₹5,950 per quintal for mustard. Under this procurement drive, 179 centers have been set up for chana and 87 for mustard. So far, 3.36 lakh farmers have registered to sell chana and 1.18 lakh farmers for mustard.
Market Prices in Gujarat Mandis:
Chana
- Junagadh: ₹5,250 – ₹5,500  
- Rajkot: ₹5,500 – ₹6,000  
Mustard
- Deesa and Dhanera: ₹5,400 – ₹6,000  
★ In most mandis, the prices are either slightly below or close to the MSP. As a result, farmers are showing limited interest in selling their produce at government procurement centers. Moreover, a large quantity of mustard has already arrived in the markets earlier in the season. On the other hand, the arrival of chana is gradually declining.
