New Delhi. As per the latest data from the Union Agriculture Ministry, government procurement of tur (pigeon pea) has reached 3.92 lakh tonnes at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹7550 per quintal in the ongoing 2024–25 marketing season.

The purchase has so far benefited over 2.56 lakh farmers across Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Haryana.

The procurement is being carried out through two government agencies — NAFED and NCCF — via registrations on the e-Samyojita portal.

According to an official circular, the Government of India has committed to purchase 100% of tur arrivals at the MSP under the Price Support Scheme (PSS). A total ceiling of 13.22 lakh tonnes has been approved for procurement under this scheme.

To support farmers in Andhra Pradesh, the procurement deadline has been extended by one month — from 22 April to 22 May — ensuring all eligible produce is purchased. Typically, a 90-day window is allotted for tur procurement.

In the Union Budget 2025–26, the government announced a long-term commitment to continue 100% MSP procurement of tur, urad, and lentil in major producing states till 2028–29. This initiative aims to strengthen domestic pulse production and ensure price stability and income support for farmers.
