New Delhi. Government procurement of Arhar (Tuvar) is still ongoing under the Price Support Scheme (PSS), even as purchases of Kharif Moong and Urad have concluded.

The procurement deadline for Tuvar varies by state, extending up to June 30, 2025, in Uttar Pradesh. The MSP for Tuvar in the 2024-25 season is Rs. 7,550 per quintal.

As per official data, 2,62,529 tonnes of Tuvar had been procured nationwide by April 20, 2025. Karnataka led with 1,75,273 tonnes, followed by Gujarat (48,866 tonnes), Andhra Pradesh (44,108 tonnes), Maharashtra (36,258 tonnes), Telangana (8,010 tonnes), and Uttar Pradesh (15 tonnes). Procurement in states like Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh was negligible.

Initially, the price of Tuvar was below MSP, enabling NAFED to purchase large volumes. However, with prices now slightly above MSP, procurement is slowing down.

In the same season, the government procured 1,76,475 tonnes of Moong, with Rajasthan accounting for the largest share. Urad procurement, however, was negligible at just 36 tonnes, limited to Rajasthan, as market prices remained above the MSP during the buying period.

The MSPs were set at Rs. 8,682 per quintal for Moong and Rs. 7,400 per quintal for Urad.
