Grain Production Down, Pulses Up in Turkey: TurkStat
★ In 2024, Turkey recorded a sharp decline in grain production. The scenario was different for pulses. Green lentil production increased significantly, while kabuli chickpea production remained stable.
★ Wheat production fell by 6% to 20.8 million tonnes, corn dropped by 10% to 8.1 million tonnes, and barley declined by 12% to 8.1 million tonnes.
★ Pea production rose by 41% to 5,353 metric tonnes, and green lentil production increased by 42% to 71,000 metric tonnes. Kabuli chickpea production held steady at 575,000 metric tonnes.
★ In contrast, red lentil production fell by 5% to 405,000 metric tonnes.
★ Turkey is one of the largest importers of lentils, but it also exports processed lentils to several countries.
